Arran Barker – BEng (Hons) IEng MIET – Director

Arran is a Director of Joshua Thomas Electrical Limited, within the Joshua Thomas organisation. He has gained his BEng (HONS) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and is currently registered as an Incorporated Engineer with the Institute of Engineering and Technology. Having begun his career in the manufacturing industry, Arran has gained a wealth of experience in electrical design and manufacture of electrical control systems. Following a number of years as a project engineer, he progressed into the highly regulated nuclear industry with WS Atkins as a Senior Engineer on a number of high profile nuclear facilities, most notably Hunterston A Solid Intermediate Level Waste Encapsulation Facility, Dounreays Low Level Waste Facility, and Devenport Docks Reactor Access Housing. His experience was further enhanced working for AMEC as a Senior Engineer on the Site Resilience project, which was a direct response to the Fukushma nuclear accident, and through the delivery of B30 Radioactive Fuel handling skip size reduction facility.

His areas of knowledge and capability revolves around design and installation of electrical distribution systems and networks, includes the specification and installation of two 2 MVA 11 kV  resilience orientated generators and associated protection schemes for the Sellafield site, Motor Control Centre design and implementation, substation design, cable and protection analysis, and the design of lighting systems.

Andy is Joint Managing Director and co-founder of Joshua Thomas & Partners Ltd; he completed his BEng Hon’s degree at Bradford University in 1999 and gained chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineer’s in 2005. His professional life commenced with AMEC Capital Projects, where for six years he was predominantly employed on highways and highway structures of all classifications. Within this time period he changed companies to NMC undertaking a freelance role. He soon moved onto small schemes within the Severn Trent operational area. His experience in civil engineering works now covers general civil’s, highways, rail, water and sewage treatment.
